November Exclusives coming next week

Halloween is postponing the release of the November exclusives for Monday, but here’s a sneak peek on what is in store as November’s Exclusives.

November Exclusives pay tribute to Urho

November Exclusives pay tribute to Urho

In November, MoiPal is paying tribute to Finlands 8th President, Urho Kekkonen (September 3, 1900 – August 31, 1986), who ruled the country for almost three decades. President Kekkonen was first elected as president in 1956 and stayed in office until 1981. He knew how to play hard ball with the Soviets and managed to keep Finland out of the conflicts during the Cold War.

Monday, the 3rd of November, be ready at the MoiPal Store doors for new monthly exclusives.

Moi Islands will be released next week

The ferries will be taking you Pal’s to explore the new Moi Islands next week. The date of the launch isn’t set yet but be prepared for some exploration next week.

All the ten new locations have been designed by MoiPal players, with some additional missions and modifications done by the MoiPal team. There’s a lot of adventuring to be done at the islands, one place in particular will have an adventure which will require the Pal to visit practically each location in Pal City!

There are also lot’s of fantasy elements in the new locations and a lot of differences to the regular metropolitan feeling which is very familiar for Pal City. Next week you will find out what the new things are so stay tuned for announcements on the Islands.

Monthly Player Interview – Lithium

I have decided to start a post for every month where I have interviewed one of the most active players of MoiPal. For October 2008, I interviewed Lithium, a Pal who started playing MoiPal last spring and is now one of the moderators in MoiPal.

Lithium

Lithium

She a very active and helpful player, she actually created a help guide for MoiPal beginners, which is called Lithium’s In-Depth Guide – An in-depth guide to playing MoiPal.

So how did you find MoiPal?

I was searching for some kind of nifty virtual self application on FaceBook and voila! I found a nifty one here alright =D

How often do you visit?

I’m a little addicted, so at least once a day haha!

What are your main activities in MoiPal?

Well I start by sending my Pal out to the Moon Mine each day I log in, usually send her out fishing and then to the agility park to train my puppy. While she’s out I’ll check the forums and help out if I can, check up on my pups, and I usually have a pm asking for help too so I try my best there also. ^_^

What kind of stuff would you like to see in MoiPal and how would you like to see MoiPal develop?

Hmm… I’d love to see something like a job system for the pals. Something to give them a bit more of an individual life if you know what I mean? I love the looks of the MoiPal Racing update too by the way!

I think MoiPal has already come a long way since I first joined with the VIP system, forums, new minigames, pets and all. You guys are doing a great job coming up with all these fun little ideas. It’s great seeing the city expand too.

What makes MoiPal different for you, comparing to other online games?

The community is definitely something unique. The idea that your Pal lives in its own little world, goes off to do little activities while you work or go to school, then comes back and tells you what it did, what it found etc – is very imaginative and different to your usual avatar game/chat site. I think it also makes it a lot more friendly.

Thanks Lithium!

MoiPal Locomotion played a lot on external site

MoiPal Locomotion (in Finnish Letkajenkka) has been played almost ten thousand times on the Finnish online gaming site pelikone.fi. Pelikone is website which caters games made by outsiders who have created a game and wanted to bring it to the public.

Pelikone.fi is operated by a company called Sanoma Entertainment, which belongs to the multinational media corporation Sanoma WSOY. Currently they have over four thousand games online and player number are huge for a country as small as Finland. There is a similar site to this in the US called Kongregate.com, who also pubish games build by others.

Once the extension to MoiPal Racing is ready, it will probably find it’s way to Pelikone as well.

MoiPal gets Monthly Exclusives

This week the MoiPal team is launching a new virtual goods line to MoiPal called the Monthly Exclusives. These exclusives will be available only for one month and each month a new set of exclusives will become available. The monthly exclusives can also be called rare items which make them very special for users who bought them when they were available.

October is almost ending and some Halloween items will be available for a rest of the week. During November, there will also be monthly exclusive items available in the city in a selected location. This way the users who have not Pal Credits to spend on the shop exclusives will have the opportunity to get their hands on an exclusive as well.

The MoiPal team is also concidering making exclusive actions into Pal City, like a fashion event at the beach or a silent movie exhibition at Kino Lumiere. Stay tuned for these in the future!

MoiPal Racing continues

The MoiPal team will be launching a new extension for the MoiPal Racing car game where you can actually drive the cars in an arcade game format, with a side scrolling view. The car will be driven across a track and the driver has to avoid pumpkins and other obstacles on the track.

One reason why I’m very excited about this game is that it will be the first MoiPal game to be built by using Flex coding! The MoiPal team is already discussing that they will probably release the game code as open source for other developers to learn how to use Flex to code stuff.

It’s the future of web apps for sure. Flex is Flash Actionscript but without the basic timeline coding. The Flex code also looks a bit more like coding Java, which the MoiPal team is very familiar with. And one big bonus is the Adobe Flex Builder, an integrated development environment (IDE), which has been created on top of our beloved Eclipse IDE!

Stay tuned for more news on the release of the racing game extension which will probably be released during the first half of November. It’s so fast to develop with Flex so it’s not going to take more than two weeks.
